Unlike consortia-backed electronic trading platforms, consortia-backed research portals like TheMarkets.com and Bond.Hub were set up as utilities and were never meant to charge users or generate revenue. The benefits to dealer-partners would come from providing a cheaper, faster, more efficient way to deliver research to more clients.

Yet as TheMarkets.com prepares for its "full launch" this fall, CEO David Eisner says it plans to start charging institutional
