Now, with a charismatic and self-described progressive US president in office, one would expect a raft of financial reforms, new oversight committees and draconian laws. Wall Street was braced for a giant cudgel and the world was awaiting cues that would indicate how Obama would handle the men and women who propelled the world's economy into this crippling recession.

So far? Nothing.
