Technology has become hugely important for Indian brokerage Motilal Oswal over the last two years. In that time period, volumes and foreign demand have grown, the market has matured, and regulators and market participants alike have realized that direct market access (DMA) and algorithmic trading are both necessary and inevitable, if the country is to become a serious global player.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) announced in April that it would allow DMA to be made available
