selected General Datacomm Inc.'s so- called Apex switches to support asynchronous transfer mode protocols. The firm is using ATM to facilitate telecommunications via its backbone network. The first component of Bear's network to go into production with ATM will be its New York City-based trading operations. The ultimate goal is to link Bear's entire community of traders worldwide. Bear has been among the very first, and few, Wall Street firms to adopt ATM.
