Switch Failure Halts HEX Trading

EXCHANGE TECHNOLOGIES

HELSINKI--The HEX Helsinki Exchange did not open for morning trading as planned and was closed for two hours last Tuesday, Sept. 30, due to a network switch hardware failure.

HEX uses both Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard network switches, but in this case the failed component was a Cisco switch, says senior vice president of securities trading at HEX Pakka Peiponen.

The failed switch not only stopped the exchange trading, but also prevented it from automatically switching to its back-up systems
