Pisces season: Platform providers feed UK plan for private stock market

Several companies in the US and the UK are considering participating in a UK program to build a private stock market composed of separate trading platforms.

Last year, the London Stock Exchange saw only 18 IPOs, according to EY, the lowest volume of listings since the accounting firm started to record this data in 2010. It’s a downward trend that is not unique to the UK. As more companies stay private longer, new ideas are needed.

The UK government, for its part, is cultivating a plan for a private stock market—dubbed Pisces—featuring a new framework for multiple, separately operated platforms to offer intermittent trading of private company shares.
