Instinet And Other ECNs Get Edgy As SEC Looks To End Their Anonymity

The Securities and Exchange Commission's deadline for receiving comments concerning the supervision of electronic communications networks such as Reuters' Instinet, Bloomberg's Tradebook and Optimark will come in two weeks, on October 3. One question being considered by regulators is whether Instinet and other ECNs should continue to provide traders and investors anonymity. A loss of that feature could undermine the very thing that makes these networks attractive to large investors.
