Congressional Bill Proposes Handing Oversight Of Government Securities Market To SEC

THIS WEEK'S LEAD STORIES

Calling the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) a "cop with no nightstick and no map of the streets" in the government securities market, House Representative Ed Markey two weeks ago introduced a Government Securities Reform Act bill.

With a five-year sunset date, the bill would grant the SEC the regulatory muscle to oversee price dissemination and institute an electronic market surveillance system. The National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) would be empowered to write sales

CME: CFTC OKs clearing move to Google Cloud

The CFTC has given the Chicago-based exchange approval to run its clearing and settlement infrastructure on the Google Cloud Platform, while the exchange and vendor have extended their partnership to last until at least 2037.
