When Robert Greifeld took over as CEO on May 11, 2003, Nasdaq was still reeling from the dotcom boom turned to bust. Market share was down and dropping, as was the number of companies listed on the market. Nasdaq's exchange application was stalled in US Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) limbo and its much-touted Super Montage platform had suffered a long, multi-approval process that made it late to the party, even as electronic trading system rivals with now faster technology loomed
