Network technology has been democratized to such an extent that it is cost-effective to set up many Internet Protocol (IP) sessions, sometimes thousands of them. FIX traffic is routed almost entirely over IP sessions, taking advantage of lower networking hardware costs and advances in bandwidth technology due to the explosive growth of the Internet.
