BEFORE THE SPIN

In considering the impacts of the historical $11.3 billion leveraged buyout (LBO) of SunGard Data Systems, I have set aside my usual cranky reactions to such big events in the realm of financial technology. Initially, I'm glad that SunGard will not be renamed (I would have scrapped the list of new names and asked the marketing people to get serious.) So, I've decided to chime in on the cautious optimism that has greeted this extraordinary news.
