AMEX Taps OM For Order Book; Is Screen-Based Trading Next?

The American Stock Exchange two weeks ago signed a letter of intent with Sweden's OM Group to develop an electronic order book for the exchange's floor-based options traders. With minor variations, the order book is based on the same screen-based trading system technology that OM itself uses and has sold to a number of European derivatives exchanges. As such, the deal positions Amex to shift to electronic trading -- and to build links to European exchanges.
