SocGen Rolls Custom-Built System; AFS Will Sell, IBM May Support

DEALING ROOM SYSTEMS

Societe Generale two weeks ago took the first step towards regional deployment of a dealing and risk system built to its specifications by Applied Financial Systems (AFS), a Sydney-based software house. SocGen's 30-position Sydney room was the first to install the system, which is written in the Smalltalk 80 programming language and runs at the bank on both PC and Sun Microsystems Inc. workstations for dealers' desktops and on Suns as server hardware.

AFS retains the right to market the system
