1st Computer Glitch in 15 Years, Faulty Hitachi System Halts Trading On the Tokyo Stock Exchange for Two Hours

The Tokyo Stock Exchange's electronic trading system went down for a full two hours on August 1, halting trading in some 1,700-plus electronically traded shares and causing some consternation among financial market participants. Lingering concerns about a potential recurrence contributed to a drop in Tokyo share prices even after Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) and Hitachi Information Systems support staff corrected the problem and revived the system in time for the exchange's afternoon trading
