Reuters' Hub Crash Leaves Some Screens Blank For Four Hours

The failure of Reuters' midtown Manhattan data center late last month left several major banks and brokerages without access to the vendor's data and dealing services -- and forced many of them to turn to alternative sources of market data and foreign exchange market liquidity. The down time, which lasted from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 24, was the result of a power outage which apparently also got the better of the data center's backup procedures.
