As expected (D&IS, 6 May), Knight-Ridder and Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe announced recently that they had come to terms to make the venture capital partnership the next owner of Knight-Ridder Financial. However, much of the market data industry was taken by surprise indeed by the news that Welsh Carson had agreed to fork over $275 million for the unit.
