Bear Stearns ECN Report Sees A Shake Out, Survival Of Fittest

DATELINE--Bear Stearns Equity Research weighed in last month with a white paper on ECNs, their current state and future prospects. While predicting a shake-out with institutional users gaining the upper hand, Bear Stearns believes that key bottlenecks will occur at the trader's desktop, where the battle for users will become fierce, and in a continuing lack of a standardized reporting structure, which will impede volume growth.
Three possible end games were examined, the first being consolidation
