More FIX, Please

The most used software tool developed so far for handling FIX messaging is the engine. A FIX engine maintains the connection between a buyer and a seller. The engine then serves the FIX message to an application using middleware or a structured format.

Too much emphasis has been placed on the FIX engine and the session layer. What about the data itself? I know many FIX cowboys who must resort to reading log files created by their engine. The tools they use are standard search tools like Unix grep
