Using Gnodal Switches, Emulex Builds a Network Congestion Reducer

Connectivity provider Emulex has partnered with Gnodal, a provider of high-speed network switches, to deliver a low-latency solution, targeted at high frequency trading (HFT) environments, that eliminates network congestion. The Emulex OneConnect 10Gb Ethernet Network Xceleration (NX) OCe12000-D adapters with a Gnodal GS4008 10GbE switch, enable lower latency by as much as 57 percent in User Datagram Protocol (UDP) testing, and by as much as 47 percent in Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) testing, when compared to a standard 10GbE switch, according to Emulex.
"Network congestion avoidance is a key issue in today's cloud-based world. However, it is especially prevalent for latency-sensitive traders dealing in HFT, where milliseconds of reaction time can mean the difference between a buy or a sell for a trader," says Shaun Walsh, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development at Emulex. "Recent Emulex Labs testing revealed that the Emulex/Gnodal solution reduces this latency by about half, unlocking faster transactional performance, which is crucial to the HFT market."
The solution employs Emulex's FastStackDBL network acceleration software in addition to the Gnodal switches, which are purpose-built for high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
