AT&T, IBM to Take on Niche Network Vendors

Just as the third-party networking services providers to securities firms are turning the corner in a tough market, several mainstream telecom and IT providers will be breathing down their necks in 2003.

While they have sector expertise--Savvis Communications, Global Crossing Financial Markets (GCFM is the former IXnet) and Radianz--are likely to face new competition from AT&T, BT, Sprint, IBM and EDS, says Melanie Posey, an analyst with IDC. "I think they will have to share the space with them,"
