Merrill to Go All IP by 2004

NEW YORK--Merrill Lynch has embarked upon a strategy to connect to all of its counterparties by way of the Internet Protocol (IP) by the end of 2004, officials say.

"We realized we were building more and more private circuits and effectively were in telco service," says Andrew Brown, first vice president and head of network services for Merrill Lynch. "It took a long time to provision clients--90 to 120 days. We wanted it to be several weeks. There was a business need for faster interconnection
