Nasdaq Revenues Fall in First Quarter

NEW YORK--Nasdaq’s revenue declined in the first quarter of 2002 due to lower trading volume and increased competition from regional exchanges, according to its first quarter results, released last Wednesday.

Revenue was $211.3 million, down by 5.2 percent from Q1 2001’s revenue of $222.8 million. Nasdaq Transaction Services, which derives revenue mainly from system access fees and transaction executions and reports, also saw a fall in revenue, from $110.8 million last year to $104.7 million, a
