HSBC AVT Deal Questioned

LONDON—Reuters’ global deal to supply HSBC with a new version of its Automated Dealing (AD) foreign exchange (FX) software incorporating technology from AVT Technologies might not be the revenue-generator that Reuters expects.

Industry sources have raised questions about the agreement, announced last month, and suggest that HSBC may not have to pay for the new technology--claims that Reuters officials hotly deny. HSBC officials did not return repeated calls by press time.
