eSpeed Fires Across Icap’s Bow

NEW YORK—eSpeed attempted to deal archrival Icap a crushing blow last week with the filing of a suit in a U.S. court accusing Icap’s newly acquired BrokerTec interdealer bond platform of infringing upon the so-called “508” or “automated auction protocol processor” patent.

The suit also names Swedish technology provider OM as a defendant because its technology underlies BrokerTec (Institutional Trading Technology, July 10, 2000). eSpeed is seeking an injunction against Icap to stop operating
