For the next foreseeable few years, the financial community can expect to see an explosion in the number of smaller boutique firms specializing in niche markets, staffed by refugees of the current and defunct banking giants.

Unencumbered by the giant firms' balance sheets, many of these new firms will most likely prosper. However, because they also lack the deep pockets of their large counterparts, they're going to rely heavily on hosted solutions and sponsored broker relationships.
