Hedge Fund Regulations in Limbo

NEW YORK—The normally secretive world of hedge funds took center stage in Washington, D.C. last week when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman slammed current hedge fund regulation as inadequate and called for emergency action to reinstate 2004 hedge fund rules.

The commission adopted rules in 2004 governing hedge funds, including the rule requiring registration of funds, but they were struck down last month by a U.S. federal appeals court.
