Bats Moves on Exchange Status

The ECN, which is the fourth-largest US equities market, filed an application to become a fully licensed securities exchange last November and hopes to obtain exchange status this year.

"We are looking forward to receiving comments from our subscribers, business partners, competitors, and the public, and to a full vetting of all aspects of our application," says Joe Ratterman, chairman, president and CEO of Bats Trading.

A Bats spokesperson says the primary advantage of obtaining exchange status
