The Waters Wavelength podcast is almost a year old, and it seems only fitting that we include it in our year-end recap of 2016. The podcast has certainly evolved in its first year, changing from only conversations between Anthony and I to eventually bringing on technology experts from across the industry.

For the uninformed, the Waters Wavelength was launched as a weekly podcast starting January 2016 with a goal of recapping the biggest financial technology stories of each week in a fun and interesting way.

You can find all the episodes on our website. They also appear on SoundCloud or iTunes. Don't forget to subscribe, and, if you're feeling generous, drop us a review too.

Episode 1: Bloomberg Terminals, Work Force Issues

It seems only fair to start at the beginning. And while the audio quality might not have been great to start, there is no denying both the topics covered (the future of the Bloomberg terminal, working at a big or small tech shop) are still relevant a year later.

Episode 22: Blackstone CTO Bill Murphy

Murphy was our first guest, and this remains our most popular episode. The head tech man at one of the biggest buy-side firms in the world talks about the business/technology debate and his love for the NBA.

Episode 30: Northern Trust's Vijay Luthra Talks Disrupting Data Centers

Properly managing data centers has never been more important to firms. Luthra, the global head of infrastructure engineering and operations at Northern Trust, discussed the evolution of the space and what firms can do to disrupt their own data centers.

Episode 33: IEX's Ronan Ryan

It's hard to say there was a more colorful character in Michael Lewis' "Flash Boys" than Ryan, who serves as IEX's president. Ryan didn't disappoint on the podcast, giving honest and pointed answers about the future of the exchange following its approval.

Episode 41: BNY Mellon CIO Suresh Kumar

With the use of open source continuing to grow at financial firms, Kumar talked about why he believes that's a good thing, and the benefits the industry can enjoy from being more transparent.

Episode 36: Thomson Reuters-Redi Deal, Chicago Trading Technology Summit

Mergers and acquisitions are a dime a dozen in financial services, but the deal between TR and Redi stood out, particularly due to the potential impact it could have on Bloomberg.

Episode 46: Creators of Julia Programming Language

We have had plenty of intelligent people on the podcast, but you could certainly feel the brainpower in the room while speaking to the creators of Julia. Following up on his feature on the programming language, Anthony interviewed the guys about concerns raised regarding Julia and the future of the language.

Episode 39: Blockchain Features

It has been said before, but there was no financial technology discussed more in 2016 than distributed ledger. Anthony, US staff writer Emilia David and I discussed our three-part series looking at various aspects of the technology.

Episode 28: Larry Malakian (aka, Tony Malakian's Dad)

The man that helped create everyone's favorite financial technology journalist joins the pod to talk about his over four decades of experience building and running data centers for various companies.

Episode 18: Dos and Don'ts for PR People

The relationship a journalist has with media relations folks is unique, to say the least. Anthony and I share some horror stories, in addition to passing along some advice for those in PR.
