Waters Rankings 2014: A Shot in the Arm

waters-rankings-2014-logo-resized

As with all of Waters’ awards programs, this year’s Waters Rankings, hosted at the Hudson Hotel in Manhattan, featured a retired sports star: Ex-major league pitcher Dwight “Doc” Gooden, who, although he turned out for a number of franchises during his 16-year career, will mostly be remembered for his decade-long stint at the New York Mets, making his major league debut with the “Amazins” in 1984 at the tender age of 19.

This year’s winners’ circle featured a number of multiple winners: Instinet, Thomson Reuters and Eze Software Group each won three categories, while the Depository Trust and Clearing Corp., SunGard and Bloomberg won two. Another change we introduced this year, which provided the rankings with something of a shot in the arm, was the requirement for all technology vendors and service providers that wanted to be considered for the win in each category to submit their entries themselves, instead of relying on the editorial staff to put their names forward, as was the case in the past. This resulted in an unprecedented 350 entries across the 30 categories, and, as usual, the winners were determined exclusively by the publication’s readers.

Write-ups by Marina Daras, Tim Bourgaize Murray, Jake Thomases, James Rundle, Anthony Malakian and Victor Anderson.
