CFTC Extends DTCC-Swift's LEI Designation

cftc-0613-app
The LEI has proved to be a vastly complex cross-industry undertaking.

The two firms were initially designated as LEI providers on July 23, 2012 for a two-year term. This extension grants another year to DTCC-Swift while the global LEI system becomes operational.

The LEI is a 20-digit alphanumeric code that communicates key information about participants in financial markets.

As part of the CFTC's order, LEIs now issued by DTCC-Swift are known as that, rather than pre-LEIs or CFTC Interim Compliant Identifiers (CICIs). The DTCC-Swift utility, formerly known as the CICI utility will now also be known as the Global Markets Entity Identifier (GMEI).
