Buy-Side Technology Awards 2013: Best CEP Product—OneMarketData

OneTick provides quants, analysts and traders with the ability to analyze, rather than just process, data so that they can make the most of investment opportunities as they arise. It offers a time-series tick database and an analytical stream-processing engine for building solutions in trading, asset management and quantitative finance.
“OneTick’s rich, comprehensive solution for quantitative research made it the obvious choice for empowering our team to make quicker and smarter investment decisions,” says Craig Robertson, a managing director with Coastal Management, a New York quant fund.
Coastal Management and proprietary trading firm Optiver are among the buy-side clients using OneTick since last June. Existing buy-side clients include Invesco, Alpha Simplex, and Campbell & Company. More than 90 firms use OneTick in total. Beyond the quant fund world, long-only funds are increasingly looking to measure and monitor their trade performance in-house through OneTick’s transaction-cost analysis (TCA) function. More and more, performance and best execution means opportunity cost and other factors beyond price. That requires a more sophisticated brand of TCA, mostly in equities but increasingly in foreign exchange (FX). OneTick’s TCA models can be embedded within trading solutions to better inform investment decisions, while keeping pace with the markets.
“We needed a CEP and database that would be fully functional, flexible, reliable, and at the same time, easy to learn for both investment researchers and developers,” says a portfolio manager in the systematic investing group at a large Canadian pension plan. “It took no time to set it up and proved to be easy to maintain by minimum IT personnel. Analysts and portfolio managers found plenty of application programming interface (API) options to research and develop, while user-defined functions provided extra customization. Complex real-time analysis has become easy.”
OneMarketData Reaction:
“OneMarketData is very pleased to receive Buy-Side Technology’s recognition as the best CEP provider for buy-side firms. With the speed required to succeed in today’s markets, buy-side firms must effectively manage massive amounts of multi-asset-class financial data with a reliable stream-processing engine and data analytics tool. Winning this award demonstrates OneTick’s ability to process high-frequency market data, understand the nuances of order books across innumerable data providers and asset classes, and incorporate reference data. This culminates in an unparalleled solution that helps firms better analyze and understand their data, driving the development of smarter, more profitable trading strategies.”
