Topsy, a San Francisco-based social media aggregator serving consumers, entertainment and political media and the financial industries, has released a new set of APIs that allow users and developers to integrate social media content and metrics into applications.

The APIs fall into three categories: Metrics APIs, which provide counts for terms, hashtags, Twitter handles or phrases, as well as Tweet counts, sentiment scores, geographical distribution of mentions, and potential impressions; Insights APIs, which identify key influencers on specific topics, and related terms and topics; and Content APIs, which provide real-time and on-demand access to relevance-ranked lists of top content, including top tweets, links, photos and videos, with URL and author analysis, and instant access to historical data.
