Undersea Cable Hailed as Fastest in Asia-Pacific

The cable covers almost 8,000 km between Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.

An undersea data cable that went live in Asia Pacific today has been hailed as the fastest in the region.

The Asia Submarine-cable Express (ASE), which links Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, spans almost 8,000 kilometers at 40 gigabits per second (Gbps), three milliseconds faster than pre-existing Singapore-Tokyo links, according to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation.

ASE was constructed by a consortium including Telekom Malaysia, Hong Kong-based NTT Communications
