NEW YORK—In a move that surprised the industry, SunGard announced in October that it will be spinning off its disaster recovery/business continuity planning (DR/BCP) division, SunGard Availability Services—approximately one half of its business—and will be redirecting and renaming the other half of its niche-oriented empire.
