Sun, IBM Prepare for Linux Battles

A major battle is heating up between Sun Microsystems and IBM on the Linux front and it appears there will be large showdowns on the trading floors of major firms.

The battle lines were drawn at Linux World last week with Sun bolstering its nascent Linux systems push with the inclusion of the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) software stack as well as Java software with its LX50 Linux/Intel 32-bit, entry-level servers (TTW, Aug. 12).

Wasting little time, IBM announced an effort to lure customers
