New Options Exchange To Launch In 2000 Using OM Software, OpenVMS, Compaq

NEW YORK--The birth of a new Wall Street-based electronic options exchange for the US--the International Securities Exchange (ISE)--will be made possible via the software of OM Technology, a subsidiary of Stockholm-based OM Gruppen.

Expected to be up and running by January 2000, the ISE's initial focus will be on US markets, and it's planning to list options on 600 of the most widely-owned and popular stocks. With consolidation likely for its competitors, the ISE may or may not eventually compete
