PHLX Offers to Buy Pacific Exchange

NEW YORK--The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) has offered to begin buyout negotiations with the Pacific Exchange (PCX) in San Francisco, say PCX officials who confirmed the offer last week. The offer does not have a dollar figure attached to it yet.

"[PHLX] has offered to open negotiations," says Dale Carlson, vice president of corporate affairs at PCX. "We’re interested in a partner that can help us help our members and shareholders--but we are hard-pressed to understand how PHLX can do that
