J.P. Morgan Securities Pilots Stars Decision-Support System

J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. has begun piloting a homegrown deal-capture and decision-support system running on UNIX-based Sun Microsystems Inc. SPARCstations and servers. The implementation appears to commit Morgan to Sun/UNIX in the long term -- despite its ongoing dalliances with a number of other platforms.

At the moment, the application -- called Stars (for Securities Trading and Reporting System) -- is being used by a small group of traders within the firm's fixed-income area. According to
