ABN Amro’s RMDS Makeover

From a distance, it looks like one step forward and one step back. As ABN Amro prepares to deploy the Reuters Market Data System (RMDS), it will eject 400 servers—most of them made by Hewlett Packard—for 300 new Sun Microsystems servers running Sun Solaris. That’s right, there’s no open-source code Linux in sight.

As reported last month in Waters’ sibling publication Trading Technology Week, nearly 80 percent of the servers earmarked for replacement are HP servers, but some Sun legacy hardware
