Fix is like TV, only different

I remember the day my father came home with our first black and white television as though it were yesterday. The cabinet was a study in bad taste -- late 1960s or early 1970s fake-wood Formica veneer and poorly finished plastic. The picture quality of the 10-inch screen was redolent of the silent-movie era of the 1930s and the set itself took a full 10 minutes to grind into life. And that’s when it wasn’t on the blink. But how we loved that TV.
