The legal entity identifier (LEI) is a public good that should remain free of charge and free of intellectual property concerns, according to panelists in an October 18 webcast sponsored by the CUSIP Global Services unit of S&P Capital IQ, Thomson Reuters and Inside Reference Data.

The biggest challenge to LEI implementation in the coming months is federating the matrix of pre-local operating units (pre-LOUs) that have emerged for administering LEIs or pre-LEIs, according to the panelists
