Waters Rankings 2022: Best managed data service provider—Bloomberg
Overview
Bloomberg Data Management Services (DMS) allows clients to take control of their data supply chain and unlock data value in days, not quarters. Clients can join their entity and instrument data to full third-party ESG datasets, with customization and transparency, delivered through a managed platform for today’s and tomorrow’s data workflows.
“One of the largest challenges for us has been managing and processing an influx of ESG vendor data that has little standardization or transparency. Bloomberg DMS has solved this for us, providing the necessary integration, transparency and efficiency required to make critical ESG investment decisions.”
Julian Dorado, director of investor data platform, M&G Investments
The Solution
Bloomberg DMS is designed to alleviate the burden of extract, transform and load (ETL) processes and data modeling, allowing clients to immediately unlock value. The solution solves for the challenges of multiple data models, multiple identifiers and portfolio coverage, and provides support for entity pushdown, custom linking strategies and link overrides.
Secret Sauce
Bloomberg DMS is built on decades of experience managing financial data. Its differentiators are transparency and traceability in the data supply chain and a “living” unified data model within a cloud data management platform that provides consistency and precision for downstream applications and table-ready data delivered directly to a cloud-based data warehouse.
Recent Milestones
Bloomberg DMS has invested in key areas for its flagship product, Data License Plus:
- Added acquisition technologies including a Rest API, ESG Publications and Cloud Delivery Manager
- Added ESG Manager, supporting the linking of third-party ESG data with entity and instrument data
- Added features for ESG Manager, including custom links, custom link strategies and custom ESG data
“By using the strength and adaptability of Bloomberg’s DMS solution, clients can streamline the acquisition, management and distribution of ESG data from multiple sources to get a full picture for more informed decision-making.”
Warren Buckley, head of Bloomberg Data Management Services
Future Objectives
Bloomberg DMS is focused on building out core capabilities to:
- Add additional content sets to Data License Plus such as new third-party ESG vendors, Bloomberg bulk datasets, and content from Bloomberg’s Aim and Port platforms
- Add support for Bloomberg History Cubes
- Add additional cloud destinations
