What makes GoldenSource’s win all the more noteworthy—thanks to its GoldenSource Enterprise Data Management (EDM) platform—is the ease with which the New York-based vendor emerged on top in this ever-competitive category. In fact, in the final analysis, the outcome wasn’t even close. GoldenSource is clearly doing something right, although it’s only fair to acknowledge that the sell side is its traditional stronghold by virtue of its historic focus, whereas Markit is still making baby steps in this sector. What’s clear, however, with respect to GoldenSource’s win in this category, is that these vendors are likely to cross swords in the future, not only when it comes to the sell side, but on the buy-side too, where GoldenSource already has an impressive client roster, both in terms of numbers and quality of names.

As with last year’s awards, every category winner was considered for this penultimate award of the program, and the first of only two categories announced on the night of the Sell-Side Technology Awards ceremony on April 15 in New York, but the five Waters journalists were unanimous in their determination that GoldenSource’s achievement should be rewarded.

GoldenSource’s business is built on the back of its EDM suite, designed to underpin user-firms’ initiatives to establish what it calls a “golden copy” of company-wide reference data repositories for securities and products, customers and counterparties. GoldenSource EDM also aggregates positions, balances, and transactions to help users generate real-time, enterprise-wide views of their risk and exposures across all areas of the business. In terms of interoperability and the ability to share data across the business, GoldenSource maintains connections to a range of market and reference data suppliers, and provides interfaces with any application that requires clean and reliable reference data, including trading, risk management and compliance, settlement, portfolio accounting and other front-, middle-, and back-office functions.
