Sell-Side Technology Awards 2013: Best Sell-Side Data Management Product ─ Markit EDM

And while many market commentators chose to reserve judgment regarding the acquisition until after the dust had settled with respect to the harmoniousness of the parent-child relationship, what no one expected was the immediacy of the sell-side success that Markit EDM enjoyed in the wake of the acquisition ─ a quarter of its current client list now hails from the sell side, a phenomenon reflected by its dominance of the best sell-side data management product category in this year's awards. In terms of its awards performance over the years, Markit EDM is the only technology vendor with an unblemished record: It has won this category for the past seven straight years in the Buy-Side Technology Awards, and, with this year's Sell Side Technology Awards gong, finds itself as the only vendor ever to have won Waters' data management product category.
Markit EDM, or Enterprise Data Management, is, as its moniker suggests, a single, enterprise data management platform that acts as a centralized data hub, designed to manage all data types and formats, which crucially delivers data in the specific formats determined by end-users across the business. During 2012, Markit launched Version 9 of the platform, introducing for the first time new data-flow components and enhanced performance rates which effectively increased its message-handling capacity to 720 million trades per hour, or 201,000 trades per second.
They say that when it comes to competitive environments, good guys always finish second. Cadis has, over the years, showed the folly of that assertion, and, with this win, Markit carries on that proud tradition.

"Through our work with the sell side, we've seen several key drivers for the uptick in data management. We've been working with these organizations to manage increasing volumes, calculate rates and curves, or address regulatory challenges. Our customers benefit from the flexibility to make changes and customizations on-the-fly to cope with revised standards or new industry requirements. Winning this award is testament to providing a scalable solution to meet the data-management needs of even the largest sell-side players. This commitment is demonstrated by our large and rapidly expanding sell-side client base. We are honoured to receive this award in its first year and we want to thank all of our customers for their feedback, so we can continue to serve them in line with their business objectives."
Daniel Simpson, managing director and global head of EDM, Markit
