Kevin Houstoun, who built Robert Fleming's FIX engine, has joined Salomon Smith Barney (SSB) as vice president, equity electronic trading and external connectivity. "It's slightly different from a buy-side firm," Houstoun says, "but it's interesting being on the other side of the fence." A front-office systems architect at Fleming, Houstoun now works with vendors and clients looking to do FIX connections. SSB's advanced position in electronic trading was a great attraction, says Kevin Bourne
