Sybase, Panopticon Partner on Visualization

"The partnership means that Panopticon will connect to Sybase and anybody who has the Sybase product can have Panopticon as well," says Peter Simpson, vice president, research and development for Panopticon Software.

"The markets are targeting what we have always targeted-the front office, pre-trade analytics, trade monitoring in quote-driven markets from a manual and algorithmic trading perspective to post-trade analysis," says Willem De Geer, managing director at Panopticon.

In the coming weeks, Panopticon also plans to launch version 5.5 of its software development kit (SDK), Developer, and its Panopticon EX data visualization platform, according to vendor officials.

The SDK supports Microsoft's .Net environment as well as Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), says Simpson. "The Panopticon EX application suite, which can be delivered to the desktop or via the Web, is built on top of the SDK. We tend to see businesses gravitate toward Panopticon EX while original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) tend to use the SDK."

In the planned release of the application suite, Panopticon has added new visual presentations that have been requested by its derivatives-trading clients.

"They wanted better ways to look at their curves, surfaces and options services," says Simpson. "These were some things that our tree-mapping capabilities were unable to do."

Panopticon officials have also added repetition of cross-tabbing-the ability to take a large universe of data and divide it into small visualizations, explains Simpson. "It is kind of a component visual analysis," he adds.

Other features include expanded support for Progress Software's SonicMQ messaging bus.

Previously, the Panopticon platform could push SonicMQ data in to only one display and now the platform can have multiple streams running simultaneously, which can be delivered to the desktop, explains Simpson. "We can now take data from relational databases and display it on a screen or stream it from Microsoft Excel or a message bus. Or we can stream data in combination so we can have streams that come from historic databases and messaging buses."

Last month, Panopticon expanded its partnership network to provide a range of technical implementations for various sectors (DWT, March 22). The new partners are U.K.-based Data Technology; Russian-based EAE, which implements and maintains business intelligence systems for large organizations; Spanish business intelligence vendor Grupo AV; Spanish technical and business consultancy ICNet; consultancy Reforce International; and Australian-based Tessera Data Visualisation.
