NYSE Boots X-Terminals for Lintel PCs

NEW YORK—The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is midway through replacing its X-Window X-Terminals on its trading floor with customized IBM-built PCs running the Linux open-source operating system, an official tells DWT.
The NYSE will retain the X Window GUI.
The rollout of approximately 3,100 Intel Mobile Pentium IIIm-chip-based machines is about halfway complete, with 1,500 of the machines providing interfaces to the Broker Booth Support System (BBSS) having gone live in late 2003, says David
