Is SOA the New SOS?

Warning: there’s a new acronym heading your way--the service-oriented architecture (SOA). It may be on more vendors’ lips this year than the word "discount."

As I understand it, the ultimate SOA should function like a central nervous system for the enterprise and the trading room. However, the concept is not new as IT consultant Doug Barry, of Barry & Associates, reminds us. It is very similar to the dream deferred of the distributed, object-oriented architectures.
