Stratus Computer, based in Maynard, Mass., will soon launch fault-tolerant, server hardware that runs Microsoft Windows 2000--a "significant departure" from what it has done in the past, say company officials.

Traditionally, Stratus has stuck to the high-end of the market--stock exchanges and large banks, says J. Robert Brown, vice president of product marketing. The fault-tolerant server, tentatively called the Stratus 2000 IA32, will offer dual module redundancy (DMR) and triple module
