Is Maith Sin. Those three Irish words mean, "It is good". They are pronounced ‘S Mah Shin. Say them quickly and they sound like ‘smahshin’. The phrase passed into the English language as "smashing", which I always thought was a very widely used Anglicism for good, great, wonderful or whatever.

But a former colleague here at Waters tells me that the word is somewhat out of date. It is not current. It is not quite cool. If you say something is smashing, there is a slight negative
